Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden make remarks on the first anniversary of the violent assault on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. Both remember the violence that took place that day in the halls of the US Capitol as senators, representatives, and staff hid from those intent on harm while the Capitol Police and the DC Metropolitan Police Department tried to protect them. They also challenge Americans to protect our Constitution and our Democracy by rejecting lies and relying on the truth. President Biden remarks, "it’s up to all of us—to 'We the People'—to stand for the rule of law, to preserve the flame of democracy, to keep the promise of America alive."
